“I’m right, you are wrong”

When my brothers John and Pete were little kids they would fight about almost anything, and one fight they had was about how to pronounce the word “rag.” John, the older of the two, pronounced it “rag” and Pete, the youngest, pronounced it “reg.” John, simply by reason of his age, felt himself to be clearly in the right and his little brother in the wrong.

Well, they’re both in their 40’s now and love each other dearly. Recently John wrote a fun little tune about that whole rag/reg thing. You can download that song here and enjoy it on your own computer or MP3 player. It's less than two minutes long.

You’ll notice how delighted John feels about being right and about his brother being wrong.

  • Do you think his feeling is an unusual one?
  • How do you think feelings like this affect Philosophical discussions?
